It is time for the Introduction of our second growers for this years "Hay year".
Burghof Damm
Our second grower this year is the small organic farm Burghof Damm, but now we give word to Christopher Brock to introduce their farm himselfs:
"Burghof Damm is a small organic farm near Marburg in Germany. Our 5 ha of land are mainly grassland (pastures and hay meadows), but we also have a large garden, a small arable field and some wood. Four horses and a very small chicken herd further enliven the farm.
Our aim is not only to supply ourselves with good food, but also to provide services for the common good. To do so, we foster biodiversity on our land with fruit trees, hedges, flower stripes and extensive grassland management and use only mechanical and biological plant protection. Most work is done by hand or with the help of our horses. Small machines are only used where hand or horse work is not feasible (ploughing, mowing and hay bailing).
We believe that not only the protection of soils, water, biodiversity, the landscape and the climate should be considered common goods, but also the production of food in agriculture itself. Therefore, we want to explore alternative economic models for food and farming that decouple the costs of sustainable production from the price of a product. Agriculture is not a business, but a mission!"
We are glad to have Burghof Damm join us and are looking forward to their hay reports.
Very interesting mix of strategies and flexibility in experimenting. Many thanks. Cozette
